Gaining admission into any tertiary institution after the completion of secondary education is always a thing of joy to both the student and the parents. However, the story of Lamidi Bilikisu who gained admission into the prestigious School of Nursing (SON), Obangede is quite different. She lost her both parents while she was still in secondary school making her an orphan left with only a blood brother who is into farming. She gained admission without knowing where her school fees and other bills was going to come from until God started charting the course for her to receive help.
A WhatsApp Group known as SAVE EBIRA EDUCATION and owned by Vajeh Adinoyi Samuel took up the plight of Lamidi Bilikisu by I forming the group members of the dire need for this young, brilliant and promising lady to be assisted in paying her fees. This was how Alh. Dr. Umar Oricha Shuaibu, the Director General Government House Administration, Lokoja who is also a member of the group got wind of the Lamidi Bilikisu’s financial predicament.
Speaking from his office at the Government House, Lokoja Alh. Dr. Umar Oricha Shuaibu said, “One of the many ways we can serve as God’s ambassadors here on earth is to always render assistance no matter how small to the needy which we will always have amongst us till this world comes to an end. Moreso, the holy books instructs us to always take care of the widows and orphans in our midst and this is one reason why I cannot turn my back on Lamidi Bilikisu whose father and mother are no more with us in flesh and blood.”
Alh. Dr. Umar Oricha Shuaibu donated the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000.00) to augment the contribution made by other concerned individuals to see that Lamidi Bilikisu meet up with the deadline of registration at SON, Obangede.
In addition, Alh. Dr. Umar Oricha Shuaibu counselled Lamidi Bilikisu saying, “God Almighty has helped you to find favour from men for you to get going on your path of destiny. The onus now lies on you not to disappoint God and also the vessels He has raised to find solution to your educational pursuit.” He added that, “What will propel those who have shown interest for now to do more is when we hear of your excellent academic grades and also the news of your good character. I will continue to pray for you to excel and also to make your late parents proud even in their grave.”
Before now, it is on record that Alh. Dr. Umar Oricha Shuaibu has joined hands with SAVE EBIRA EDUCATION to pay the West African Senior School Certification Examinations (WASSCE) fees of some students in the final year in secondary schools. He has also on a yearly basis earmark funds to pay for the school fees of students in different higher institutions across The country. The astute administrator have always point out in clear terms that one of the best types of empowerment one can give is financial support to students in different institutions as education will always remain the bedrock of the society.
