Salary payment, right of workers, not yardstick to measure performance of any Government – Comr. Miliki
Idris Miliki Abdul, Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) Lokoja, Kogi has argued that the payment of salaries is the right of workers, pointing out that it should not be used as a yardstick to measure the performance of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo.
Comr. Miliki in a statement issued to the Nigerian Post said citizens must know that payment of salaries should not be the only yardstick for measuring the performance of any government.
He explained that the payment of salary is the right of workers, asked if Gov. Ododo was elected only by the workers.
“Was Gov. Ododo elected for the workers alone? What is the percentage of the Kogi State workers to the entire population?
“How much is the statutory allocation of Kogi State in the last one year? Where are the projects started and completed in the last one year?
“How many people have been employed in different sectors of the the State?
” What is the infrastructure situation of the Education Sector in the State? Particularly the basic education sub sector”.
“How many houses have been built in the State in the last one year, despite the creation of the Ministry of Housing?.
Comr. Miliki also noted that in the transport sector, nothing have been done or injected by the State government in the last one year by the present administration
He urged citizens of Kogi State not to be blind folded due to the prompt payment of salaries of workers, urged them to demand for all round development.
“While there is a commendable efforts for salary payments, compared to what is obtained in the immediate past government, notorious for not paying salary as at when due”, Miliki urge the present administration to make performance holistic for all citizens beside the Civil servants.
