It is no longer news that the mother of the defunct USSR and her sister country, Ukraine had been at loggerhead over the past weeks. It is sad to know that things has escalated and gotten out of hand.
Arising from provocation and confrontations today, report has it that the Russian federation have fully deployed it’s military and arsenals as they have fully advanced beyond her original borders, which signals full blown war.
Without doubt, destruction is the adverse effect of wars and this raises serious concern. It’s noteworthy that war is anti-humane because the resultant effect would definitely be on the people occupying these warring territories.
Joseph Heller says “It doesn’t make a damned bit of difference who wins the war to someone who’s dead”. Death is the biggest casualty and it doesn’t matter where the victims are from. It is therefore expedient for the government of our federation to proactively come into the scene now that the Russia-Ukraine war is at it’s nascent stage by deploying all round efforts to evacuate her citizens from the warring countries, Nigerian students numbering up to 4,000 inclusive.
We are however relieved that Godfrey Onyeama, the Foreign Affairs Minister in connection with the Nigeria’s ambassador to Ukraine have reportedly stepped up efforts to ensure that the lives of Nigerian students are protected pending their evacuation.
As for Kogi State students in Ukraine, our hearts and prayers are with you – The State Government is already in touch with the Federal Government to ensure your safety.
Meanwhile, we implore you to be self protected and extraordinarily cautious as we trust the government to swing into action immediately.
H.G. Wells says “If we don’t end war, war will end us.”, we are prayerful that the two countries find peaceful resolution as the alternative to war as soon as possible.
