Restrict passage of heavy-duty vehicles on the crusher-Felele Road from six AM to Seven PM – SSANU, FUL.

 

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Federal University FUL, Lokoja Branch, has called on state and Federal governments to restrict the passage of heavy-duty vehicles on the crusher-Felele Road from six AM to Seven PM to reduce the risk of accidents during peak hours.

The SSANU FUL branch made the call in a statement in Lokoja while reacting to the tragic accident that occurred at Felele, Lokoja.

The statement said, SSANU also wants the state governments to establish dedicated truck lanes and restrict truck movement during peak hours.

According to the statement, the measure became imperative as the spate of accidents involving truck drivers in Felele, Lokoja, has become a recurring nightmare, claiming innocent lives and leaving families shattered.

It urged the government to Implement a nationwide system for monitoring and tracking truck drivers’ hours of service, speed, and other safety measures.

The statement also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC to increase patrols and surveillance on highways to prevent reckless driving.

It expressed its deepest condolences to the university community, students, and families of the victims of the tragic accident.
