In the Quran, Allah (swt) says: “Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression. And be aware of Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment” (Quran 5:2).
“You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love (in the way of Allah). Allah knows whatever you spend.” (Surah Al-Imran 3:92)
Those needy ones who are wholly wrapped up in the cause of Allah, and who are hindered from moving about the earth in search of their livelihood especially deserve help. Helping each other is a way to overcome the grief that we may experience, and it can empower us in our worship to Allah. Allah says:
وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُوا مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ
“Establish Prayer and dispense the Purifying Alms (Zakat) and bow in worship with those who bow.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:43)
The Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris has congratulated Muslims worldwide and Kogi State in particular on the dawn of another Ramadan fast, called it a new opportunity to get closer to our creator through fasting, alms-giving, and seeking forgiveness.
The Commissioner described fasting month as always a lifetime chance for the Muslims to take advantage of God’s abundant mercies to forgive sins and answer prayers in the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed and during which the Night of Majesty is witnessed once again.
“I join the rest of the Muslim community to thank God Almighty for another opportunity to receive mercies and get answers to prayers” the statement said.
“I congratulate all Muslim faithful in Kogi state and beyond, appeal to everyone to seize this opportunity to pray for our State, Nigeria, and the human race at large. Let us also use this opportunity to extend more support to the poor and the silent majority among us in exchange for Allah’s rewards.”
