PROPOSED OKUN UNIVERSITY; WHY IT MUST BE ON YAGBA SOIL. (A Communique by Apapo Omo Yagba Youth Wing)
We receive with enthusiasm and great joy the approval of another State University to be sited on Okun land by the State Executive Council under the leadership of *His Excellency Yahaya* *Adoza Bello* . The Council approval came at the State Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday the 17th May 2023.
*APPRECIATION*
Firstly, we the youths of Yagba want to appreciate His Excellency Yahaya Bello and the Council for this approval. It is indeed a welcome development that is long overdue. In fact, it is the shame of Okun people that a people so much well known for academic brilliance, excellence and exploits have no full fledge University on its land.
We therefore without any reservations whatsoever welcome this development wholeheartedly and appreciate all those behind it.
*OUR PLEA*
It is our plea that the proposed University be sited in Yagba Federal Constituency for even spread of academic institutions across Kogi West.
We by this draw the attention of the Council and the Committee to handle the take off of the proposed University to the fact that Yagba Federal Constituency comprising the three local government of Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West is the most justifiable place to site the new University for the following reasons:
1. The Kabba Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency is already playing host to a College of Agriculture of ABU Zaria.
2. Kogi State College of Education Technical is in Kabba Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.
3. The Nigerian Law School Campus to be sited in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency has been approved by the Senate.
4. Kabba Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency share very close proximity to Federal University of Lokoja, the State owned Confluence University of Technology (CUSTECH), Osara and the Federal College of Education Okene.
Without prejudice to our brother in the Okun Nation – Kabba Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency, it is fair and just to consider Yagba Federal Constituency which without any higher institution whatsoever and far from the others.
*ASSURANCES*
We want to assure your Excellency, Yahaya Bello, Kogi State Executive Council and the Committee on the proposed University that Yagba people shall cooperate for seamless take off of the University as we are not unaware of the benefits of being host to a Higher Institution of learning.
We also want to assure that we have the land, the enabling environment both natural, human and security to host the University.
We as Yagba youths are appealing to our people to embrace and support this development wholeheartedly. This is not the time to play politics.
*OUR ADVICE TO YAGBA LEADERS*
We humbly advice our elites using Apapo Omo Yagba leadership with great minds like His Excellency, Ambassador Enikanolaiye, Engr Afolabi Oludoyi(MON), Barrister Funmi Abiodun, Engr Ayo Osasona, Cmdr Folusho Daniel, Prince Olusesan Orebiyi etc as a rallying point to as a matter of urgency come up with a committee that will activate actions on how Yagba will not miss out of this.
*CONCLUSION*
At the level of Apapo Omo Yagba Youth Wing, we are not only ready to cooperate and support the proposed University, we shall make ourselves available to see that it comes to fruition.
