By joshua Police in Kogi Arrest Ex-Convict Suspects Over Killing of Graduate, Recover Stolen Tricycles
The Kogi State Police Command has arrested two suspected ex-convicts over the killing of a graduate in Lokoja and the theft of his tricycle, with five other motorcycles also recovered in the operation.
The victim, Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Otokiti, Lokoja, and a recent graduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University awaiting NYSC call-up, was reported missing on March 18, 2026, after he left home on his tricycle to work. His body was later found near the CBN area, Zone 8, Lokoja, prompting a homicide investigation.
According to police, operatives of the Homicide Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department, traced the case to Garba Godwin Ibrahim and Ashema Usman Samson.
Investigations revealed the suspects posed as construction workers and lured Abubakar to a secluded spot where they attacked him with a shovel.
An autopsy confirmed the victim died from multiple severe blows to the back of the head, which caused extensive skull fractures and fatal intracranial injuries. Police said the suspects confessed that the attack was premeditated and aimed at stealing the victim’s tricycle.
The suspects allegedly sold the tricycle to one Kabiru Idris of Ayingba. A follow-up operation led to Idris’ arrest and the recovery of the victim’s tricycle along with four other motorcycles suspected to be stolen. Police said Idris admitted to ongoing dealings with the two suspects and to receiving stolen items from other criminals.
The Command disclosed that Ibrahim and Samson are ex-convicts previously jailed for armed robbery and culpable homicide, with links to the deaths of over 16 persons.
Investigations have been concluded and the suspects have been charged to Magistrate Court 5, Lokoja, where they were remanded in custody.
Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended operatives for their diligence and restated the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to the police.
