Police Arrest 7 After Lagos–Abuja Bus Attack on Ayere–Kabba Road, Rescue One Victim
… CP says joint bush-combing underway to free remaining passengers; Chisco bus recovered, probe ongoing
The Kogi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects linked to a kidnapping attack on a Lagos–Abuja commercial bus along the Ayere–Kabba Road, with rescue operations continuing for passengers still in captivity.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi said the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. on the Ayere–Kabba axis, inward Kabba Local Government Area.
Preliminary findings show that armed hoodlums attacked a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company, registration KJA 405 YJ, while it was en route from Lagos to Abuja.
A prompt response by security operatives led to the rescue of one victim, identified as Adoun Julius, 56. The bus was also recovered and taken to the police station for further investigation, the Command said in a statement Wednesday.
Joint teams of the Police, Military, and other security agencies have intensified bush-combing and search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining abducted passengers.
“So far, seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently assisting ongoing investigations,” the statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat read.
The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, supported by tactical teams, is leading efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend other perpetrators.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm but vigilant and to share credible information that could aid operations, assuring that all tips will be treated with strict confidence.
Families or relatives of the victims were advised to report to the SCID Headquarters in Lokoja, specifically the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to assist with identification and investigations.
CP Kankarofi reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and warned criminal elements to desist, adding that “the full weight of the law will be decisively brought to bear on anyone found culpable.”
