By joshua PDP OGUN CENTRAL ENDORSES DR. LATEEFAT KOLAPO AS DEPUTY GOVERNOR CANDIDATE FOR 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ogun Central Senatorial District, has unanimously endorsed Alhaja Dr. Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo, PhD, as its preferred candidate for Deputy Governor of Ogun State ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting of PDP leaders, ward chairmen, women leaders, and youth representatives from Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ewekoro, Ifo, Obafemi-Owode, Odeda, and Ogun Central federal constituencies. Party leaders described the move as a consensus decision aimed at strengthening the PDP’s chances in the next election cycle.
Dr. Kolapo, popularly revered as the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and the First Ameerah General of Ogun State, is a prominent Muslim leader, educationist, and grassroots mobilizer. Her selection, party chieftains said, reflects PDP’s commitment to inclusivity, gender representation, and recognition of influential community figures.
In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Kolapo thanked the Ogun Central PDP family for the confidence reposed in her. She pledged to work with the party’s governorship candidate when chosen, to build a government that prioritizes education, healthcare, women empowerment, and youth development. “This endorsement is not about me alone. It is about every woman, every youth, and every family in Ogun Central who deserves better representation and better governance,” she said.
PDP Ogun Central Chairman, who read the resolution, said Dr. Kolapo’s profile as a PhD holder, religious leader, and philanthropist gives the party a strong moral and intellectual voice on the ticket. “Alhaja Kolapo has served humanity selflessly. As Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and First Ameerah General, she commands respect across faiths and communities. Her entry will expand our reach and deepen our connection with the electorate,” he stated.
Stakeholders at the meeting noted that her grassroots network and reputation for bridge-building between traditional, religious, and political institutions will be critical as PDP reorganizes ahead of 2027. Women leaders at the event praised the endorsement as a bold step toward increasing women’s participation in top elective positions in Ogun State.
The PDP Ogun Central Senatorial District said it will forward the resolution to the state executive committee and the party’s governorship aspirants for harmonization ahead of primaries.
