The Member Representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya, has expressed deep shock and profound grief over the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, CON, Jakadan Sokoto.
Hon. Yahaya, who represents the home constituency of the late former Governor, said the news of his death in London at the age of 77 has thrown Omala Local Government Area and the entire Kogi State into mourning.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, the lawmaker described the late Alhaji Ibrahim Idris as the finest son of Omala, a father, a political pillar and a rare gift to Kogi State whose life was dedicated to service, philanthropy and human empowerment.
“His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was not just a former Governor, he was the pride of Omala Kingdom. He put Omala on the map of national prominence with dignity and honour. During his tenure as Governor from 2003 to 2012, Omala witnessed unprecedented development — from rural roads that opened up our agrarian communities, to massive investment in primary healthcare centres, schools rehabilitation, rural electrification and appointments of our sons and daughters into key positions of government.
He governed Kogi State with an Omala heart — a heart of compassion, humility, peace and inclusiveness. He never forgot his roots, and his love for Omala was evident in every policy and every project he executed,” Hon. Yahaya said.
The lawmaker noted that the late Ibro was a man of peace who united Kogi State across ethnic and religious divides and laid a solid foundation for civil service welfare, infrastructural growth and political stability that successive administrations have built upon.
On behalf of his family and the entire people of Omala State Constituency, Hon. Yahaya extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late statesman, the Chairman and people of Omala Local Government, the Attah Igala, HRM Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, the Kogi State Government and the entire people of Kogi State.
He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and grant his family and the people of Omala the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“Omala will never forget him. Kogi will forever cherish his memory. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.
