REMEMBERS HIS LEGACY OF SERVICE AND AMIABLE DISPOSITION
The Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET) joins the Government and people of Kogi State, the family, friends and associates of His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, CON, in mourning his passing. The former Governor, who served Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, died on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at the age of 77.
For KONGONET, this is a moment not only of grief but also of reflection on a period of Kogi State’s history that left visible public investments across several sectors. Projects widely associated with the Ibrahim Idris administration include the Greater Lokoja Water Scheme, the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Confluence Stadium, Lokoja International Market, housing schemes, road infrastructure and investments in education and public institutions. Many of these facilities remain important reference points in discussions about the State’s development and the need to preserve public assets for future generations.
Beyond physical projects, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris will also be remembered by many Kogites for his calm, accessible and amiable disposition. His public persona reflected a style that placed value on relationships, peaceful engagement and accommodation of people from different communities and backgrounds. In a diverse State such as Kogi, that disposition remains an important reminder that leadership is strengthened when citizens can engage their leaders without unnecessary barriers.
His passing should therefore encourage renewed attention to institutional continuity. Public projects and policies outlive individual administrations only when succeeding governments maintain, improve and adapt them to changing needs. One meaningful way to honour the memory of past leaders is to protect useful public investments and ensure that they continue to deliver value to citizens.
KONGONET extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended Idris family, the people of Omala Local Government Area, the Government of Kogi State and all Kogites at this difficult time. We recognise the depth of this loss and stand in solidarity with everyone mourning the former Governor.
We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and gives his family and the people of Kogi State the strength and fortitude to bear this loss.
