Olujumu Bags Peace Builder Award


 

A Non Governmental Organization, Movement for Peaceful and Equitable Governance in Nigeria ( MOPEGON) has been confered with the Peace Builder Award of the year.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Olujumu’s Palace at Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, the Director General of MOPEGON, Comrade Counsel Bello-Omeiza said the Ijumu Paramount Ruler was confered with the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the peace of Ijumu, Okun land, Kogi State and Nigeria in general.

Comrade Bello-Omeiza in his words noted that ” from time immemorial every era has had the privilege of being blessed with a transformation figure, a leader whose influence transcends both national and international borders. This can be said of his Royal Majesty, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, the Olujumu of Ijumu and Chairman Ijumu Traditional Council of Chiefs”

He further stated that “His Majesty was groomed and divinely predisposed to build peace particularly in Ijumu and Kogi State in general. The awardee, is thoroughly vast in strategies for peace-building and conflict resolution. No wonder he is often referred to as blunt, strong-willed and strict disciplinarian with immense relevance in exposure, experience and credentials that project him as one of the most treasured peace builder in kogi state. He is also an advocate of governance translating to the tangible benefits of the people.”

The Director General who congratulated the Olujumu for being outstanding in the discharge of his duty, urged him to remain focused and more determined for his domain to witness relative peace and development.

Responding, the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni who was surprised by the honour, expressed appreciation to MOPEGON for recognizing his contributions to the State and Ijumu Local Government Area.

Oba Ayeni maintained that “the successes recorded cannot be achieved without the support of members of Ijumu Local Government Traditional Council, Elders and the good people of Ijumu Kingdom and I want to urge you not to relent.”

According to him, “honour like this is for you to do more and I want to assure you and the people of my domain that by the grace of God, this award will spur me to do more.”

He promised to continue to carry out his assignment without fear or favour and appealed to the people to be law abiding at all times.
