
Oguma Young Stars Win Bassa Peace football Tournament 1-0

The Young Stars FC of Oguma, headquarters of Bassa local government area, have won the maiden edition of annual Bassa Peace football tournament, sponsored by Dr Baba Abdul Bala, CEO of Starex Global Consults Ltd, Abuja, with a one nil victory against the Koriko FC in the final match played on Saturday, at Oguma Township Stadium.
The Young Stars FC scored the only goal in the final in the first half via a penalty shoot out, while the Koriko boys tried in vain to equalize in the second half of the match, but luck was not on their side.
The winners received cash prize of one hundred thousand naira, while the overall best player of the tournament received a cash donation from the chairman of Bassa local government area, Mr. Theophilus Adama Daruwana, who was visibly elated with the large turn of soccer fans in the area.
Daruwana promised to make the football tournament bigger and better next year, as the chairman plans to seek sponsorship of the tournament by mobilizing the political stakeholders towards a sustained sponsorship.
The chairman of Bassa local government council, Hon. Theophilus Daruwana appealed to indigenes of the area to emulate the donor, Dr Baba Abdul Bala, by sponsoring the Bassa Peace football tournament and other sports championships in the area.
Speakiing at the event, President-General of Ogba Community Development Union (O.C.D.U Nigeria) Dr. Ishaq Dan-Imam, said the Bassa Peace tournament was part of a broader vision to foster peace, promote unity and support sports development in Bassa Local Government Area, adding that, “The Ogba Community Development Union urge our politicians and businessmen to invest in the future of our youths to engender sustainable development, as we build sustainable future for our talented youths through sports championships and community development initiatives, such as the football championship,” Dan-Imam noted.
