OBYGI HOSTS SUCCESSFUL YOUTH PARLEY IN LOKOJA, CALLS FOR PEACE AND UNITY IN BASSA AHEAD OF 2027
… Deputy Governor, security experts stress forgiveness and dialogue as path to stability in Bassa LGA
The ODODO BASSA YOUTHS GRASSROOTS INITIATIVE (OBYGI) has held its maiden Youth Security Roundtable Parley in Lokoja, with stakeholders calling for sustained peace and unity in Bassa Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Held at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja under the theme _“Sustaining and Ensuring Peace in Bassa LGA: 2027 in Focus,”_ the event brought together prominent sons and daughters of Bassa LGA to address emerging security concerns in the area.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Comr. Joel Oyibo Salihu, said the state government remains committed to restoring lasting peace in Bassa LGA, describing it as vital to overall stability in Kogi.
“Peace must return to Bassa. Kogi State will not be at peace if Bassa is in conflict. Bassa is dear to the government,” he said, calling on residents to embrace forgiveness and unity as the foundation for reconciliation.
“The time for the people of Bassa to form a united front is now. Peace cannot be compromised. The people of Bassa must speak in one voice,” he added, urging communities to replicate peace-building initiatives across the LGA.
In his presentation, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), advocated for platforms such as a “Unity House,” sustained dialogue, and mutual respect as key measures to foster lasting peace in the area.
At the event, former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello was honored with an award of excellence for his contributions to peace and security during his tenure. The Kogi State Government was also recognized for its efforts in promoting youth inclusion in governance.
In his remarks, OBYGI 4+4 Coordinator, Comrade Victor MD Kpanaki, said the recognition was in acknowledgment of Bello’s role in strengthening the state’s security architecture.
“His administration recorded significant strides in protecting communities and fostering unity among diverse groups,” Kpanaki stated.
He added that the parley was designed to provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue on sustaining peace as the country approaches another election cycle.
“It is important that communities remain vigilant and united against threats to stability,” he said, noting that the event would also celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves in service and development.
