By joshua NYC LAUDS ODODO AS KOGI CELEBRATES 2026 PAN-AFRICAN WOMEN’S DAY, CALL FOR ECONOMIC REPARATIONS AND GENDER JUSTICE
The Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, Kogi State Chapter, joins the rest of Africa in commemorating the 2026 Pan-African Women’s Day in honor of the founding of the Pan-African Women’s Organization, PAWO.
This year’s theme, “Advancing Social and Economic Justice through Reparations”, is a timely call for a shift from rhetoric to action. For us in Kogi State, reparations must begin with deliberate policies and programs that protect the dignity of our women, expand their access to opportunities, and secure a safer future for our girls.
In Kogi, women are the backbone of our communities. They are the farmers who feed us, the traders who drive our markets, the educators who shape our children, and the activists who speak truth to power. Their resilience remains the heartbeat of the Confluence State.
True justice for Kogi women means repairing historical and systemic gaps in access to credit, land ownership, political representation, and leadership. It means creating an enabling environment where gender is not a barrier to prosperity.
Social and economic justice for one Kogi woman uplifts an entire family, and ultimately, an entire community. When we empower our mothers and sisters, we are building a stronger, more prosperous Kogi.
As youth leaders, we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for policies that advance gender equity, protect the girl-child in schools, and promote the safety and dignity of women across the 21 Local Government Areas.
We also appreciate His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his commitment to women’s inclusion in governance and leadership in Kogi State. We encourage sustained efforts to give more women seats at decision-making tables and to strengthen programs that support female farmers, entrepreneurs, and young girls.
African women were at the forefront of the liberation struggle. Today, they are leading the struggle for economic survival. It is our duty to stand with them.
On this Pan-African Women’s Day, the NYC Kogi State Chapter celebrates the strength, courage, and contributions of Kogi women. We call on all stakeholders — government, traditional institutions, civil society, and the private sector — to move beyond words and deliver tangible actions for gender justice.
Justice for our women is justice for Kogi. Justice for Kogi women is justice for Africa.
