Omala Lawmaker Takes N6m Education Support To More Schools In Kogi

The lawmaker representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya, has extended his educational support programme to more schools in Omala Local Government Area while monitoring the disbursement of his N6 million education fund.

Yahaya, popularly known as Connect, disclosed this on Friday, 30th October, 2026, saying the follow-up tour was to capture schools not covered in the initial distribution and to ensure that the cash support gets directly to vulnerable students and orphans.

According to him, “I conducted a follow-up tour of some schools in Omala today to release additional educational materials to schools that were not captured in our last education empowerment and to ensure that the cash disbursement of the N6 million earlier released to support vulnerable students and orphans gets to them directly.”

Schools visited during the exercise include LGEA Primary School, Echa; Unekwu-Ojo Primary School, Echa; RCM Primary School, Abejukolo; LGEA Central Primary School, Abejukolo; Graceland Secondary School, Abejukolo and LGEA Islamiya Primary School.

It would be recalled that the lawmaker had earlier in October launched a N6 million education empowerment scheme, comprising N5 million for 100 students drawn from public and private schools, with each student receiving N50,000, and N1 million reserved as scholarship for the highest scorer in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from Omala LGA.

The programme also provides notebooks, recommended Mathematics and English textbooks, school bags and other writing materials to schools across the 11 wards of the local government.
At the flag-off, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, who represented Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, had commended Yahaya for complementing government’s efforts in educational development.
Hon. Yahaya said the current visits are to expand the reach of the intervention, reduce educational expenses for families, reward academic excellence and improve access to learning materials in Omala schools.
