The captain of Edo Queens Football Club Glory Ogbonna has revealed the secret behind their goalless away draw with Sunshine Queens of Akure in Wednesday’s NWFL premiership game played at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure.
Ogbonna who is the defense Ace of Edo Queens said her major role as a defender is to ensure that attackers from the opponent side do not come near her post.
‘’ l’m very happy with the result of this particular match, ever before this game, I have heard a lot of stories that our opponents were going to do this and do that to us, but they have forgotten that football is not played with mouth, it is played on the pitch. When we were coming for this game, we told ourselves that we are not going to give room for complacency, that we are going to give a run for their money. We actually played our hearts out like wounded lions stamped our superiority over them. It is just unfortunate that the match ended goalless. We were ready to shame them at home. And we have also decided to play all our games with the same zeal, seriousness and commitment. “
Meanwhile, Technical Manager of Edo Queens, Rolanson Odeh, has commended the effort of the girls for putting up a good fight against Sunshine Queens.
According to him “I commend my players for the good fight, it’s a tactical game that my team had in control and if there was a VAR at least two goals would have stood in favour of the Edo Queens, but above all, I’m satisfied with the outcome. Now we are going back to Benin to strategize for our next home game against Nassarawa Amazons. We have decided to pursue all our games with vigor, seriousness, dedication, consistency, determination and discipline”.
