In line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda, the Nigerian Immigration Service is taking steps to reform the nation’s passport system.

This initiative is aimed at improving the quality of the Nigerian passport, boosting local content, and ensuring it meets international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

This was the reason the Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service embarked on a public sensitization campaign through a roadshow in Lokoja, the state capital.

The procession started at Paparanda, moving through various streets before ending at Ganaja Junction.

The Comptroller of Immigration Service, Kogi State Command, Jerry Afamuefune Omezi, and Ruth Osho, the Passport Control Officer, addressed the public about the new passport, explaining that the reform is necessary to enhance the quality and security of the Nigerian passport.

They acknowledged concerns about the cost increase but explained that it is justified by the improved features and production processes.

According to the Comptroller, “the 32-page passport, valid for five years, now costs ₦50,000, while the 64-page passport, valid for ten years, is priced at ₦100,000”.

“This sensitization campaign will continue for the next three months, giving citizens ample time to learn about the new reforms and benefit from the improved services”.

In her words, the PCO, Ruth Osho assured that the State immigration service is well repositioned to deliver timely on the issuance of international passport.

” As I speak with you, no passport issuance exceeds two weeks. We have also ensure that in Kogi State Command we have no challenges with touting as we have sanitize the system”, urged prospective passport seekers to visit the command for their passports.

Without mincing words, the Immigration Service in Kogi State is committed to implementing the ongoing reforms, towards maintaining international standards and ensuring that every Nigerian has access to a passport.
