NIPR KOGI SETS 100-MEMBER TARGET, TAKES ADVOCACY DRIVE TO RADIO KOGI

The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, has launched a two-year strategic advocacy campaign aimed at recruiting 100 new members and repositioning the Institute as the leading professional body for public relations and strategic communication in the state.

The Chairman of the Chapter, Hon. Ismaila Isah, announced this during a courtesy and advocacy visit to the Director-General of Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Kogi, Princess Nana Hauwa Yussuff, at the Corporation’s headquarters in Lokoja.

Hon. Ismaila said the visit was part of ongoing stakeholder engagements designed to revitalize the Chapter, deepen institutional partnerships, and encourage qualified communication professionals to embrace NIPR membership and certification.

He noted that the current leadership inherited a Chapter that had been largely inactive, but has since embarked on deliberate reforms to restore its relevance.

“Radio Kogi occupies a unique place in the communication space of Kogi State. Over the years, many staff of this Corporation were active members of the Institute. We are here to rekindle that relationship and encourage more eligible professionals to align with the values and standards of professional PR practice through the NIPR,” Hon. Ismaila stated.

He explained that the target of 100 new members within the next two years is central to the Chapter’s broader vision of making NIPR the foremost platform for reputation management, stakeholder engagement, crisis communication, and public trust building in Kogi.

The Chairman appealed to the management of Radio Kogi to encourage eligible staff to register with the Institute and participate in its professional development programmes.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Chapter, Mr. Mike Abu, described Radio Kogi as a longstanding partner of NIPR. He said both institutions share the responsibility of promoting credible information, ethical communication, and responsible public engagement. He expressed optimism that renewed collaboration would boost the growth of the profession in the state.

In her response, the Director-General of Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Princess Nana Hauwa Yussuff, commended the NIPR leadership for its commitment to reviving the Chapter. She described the relationship between the media and public relations as complementary, stressing that both are critical to informing and shaping public opinion.

Princess Nana Hauwa announced her intention to immediately commence registration as a member of NIPR, describing membership as a valuable professional asset for communication practitioners.

She also pledged to extend the advocacy to the Corporation’s booster stations across the state to encourage more staff to join the Institute.

The DG further emphasized the role of ethical public relations in promoting peaceful and issue-based political engagement ahead of future elections. She urged members to uphold professionalism, integrity, and high ethical standards.

She assured the Chapter of the Corporation’s full support and applauded the Executive Council for its vision to restore the vibrancy of NIPR in Kogi State.

The visit to Radio Kogi is one of several strategic engagements by the Kogi State Chapter of NIPR to deepen partnerships, promote ethical practice, and reposition the Institute as a leading voice in professional communication and reputation management in the state.
