Chaired by Rev’d Aderibigbe Adegbolagun, an extraordinary meeting of Civic Consciousness Global
Initiative, CCGI which had in attendance the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church in Nigeria, Baba
Sunday Makinde, and Professor of Professors, a Priest of the Anglican Church in Nigeria and pioneer Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Professor Dapo Asaju among many distinguished christian leaders have cautioned the nation against sliding into violent politicking on her way to 2023 election.

The caution became necessary during the deliberation on the state of the nation at the monthly meeting of the Civic Consciousness Global Initiative held on the 4th of October where various National issues were discussed, it resolved to caution and counsel the political parties and the national leaders of this
great nation on what portends dangers to peace and stability before, during and beyond 2023 election. Among them are:

CCGI observed that campaigns are tilting towards violence by the utterances of most political gladiators.

Politicians should make campaign issues-based rather than character assassination. This example will activate objective attitudes from their teeming followers instead of the confrontations that are our
present experience, particularly online!

2) The need to lay the smuggled National Grazing Reserve Council Bill to rest in the interest of peace was
seriously dwelt on. It is manipulative and embarrassing that after the uproar of the public against a programme that first surfaced as a government policy and was later introduced as National Livestock Transformation Plans, which were vehemently rejected by the public has resurfaced again, now as a bill before the National Assembly as Grazing Route Bill. This is a ticking time bomb that will blow up the much desired peace and unity of the Nation if passed into law!
CCGI cautioned the Law Makers to think deeply and trash it, having been rejected earlier by the masses of this nation in all the forms previously employed to sail it through!

3) The Church and 2023 elections: The group cautioned that the Church shouldn’t vote based on religion, rather on moral virtues of righteousness, love, justice, equity, fairness, respect and tolerance of all
religious diversities and inclusiveness. These virtues should be the parameters of assessing politicians
seeking for our votes.

4) Vote buying should be an anathema to every loving Nigerian. Do not sell your vote under any
pressure. The hunger you’re running away from now, will come back stronger and remain with you for
another four (4) years, in the least, if your civic right is commercialized!

Therefore, for free, fair and credible elections that will guarantee peace and unity beyond 2023. Nigeria
and Nigerians must frown at anything short of the above. The Secretary of CCGI Rev’d Dr J. B Odofin, a pioneer Board member of Lagos State Inter-Faith Council further stressed on the need for religious leaders to eschew violent inciting utterances and embrace peace at leading political leaders and the nation at large, to a peaceful 2023 election.
