The Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, Niger state chapter has condermed in it totality the continuous closure of schools in the state, occasioned by insecurity.
This is contained in a communique issued at the end of the state wing Executive (SWEC)council meeting of Nigeria Union of Teachers in Minna.
In the communique,it says
insecurity has created negative impacts on the students and pupils of the affected schools and threatening the desired peace in the society.
The council called on the government to as matter of serious concern provide viable alternative means towards ensuring resumption of normal academic activities in affected schools.
The SWEC-in-session, further expressed worries on non implementation of the directives and approval given by Mr Governor on the payment of four months outstanding salary arrears to the Primary schools teachers recruited in the year 2019.
They also extolls the state government efforts in esterblishing the Niger state Teacher’s Professional Development Institute, which according to them is aimed at reviving and restoring the lost glory of the teaching profession in the state.
The council also expressed concern on the corporate survival of the school’s and therefore called on the State goverment to put machineries in place towards it institutionalization.
They expressed worries over the way retired Teachers are languishing in abject poverty which is occasioned by non payment of gratuities and pension despite deduction of 7.5 percent as their counterpart contribution.
The SWEC session frown on the nonchalant attitude of some of the pension fund Administrators (PFA”s)in handling their matter’s.
They appealed to state government to as matter of serious concern do the needful on order assuage the plights of the Senior citizens.
They reiterate the stand of the Union to continue to have a sound working synergy with all the relevant educational agencies in the state with the view to uphold the already existing industrial peace and harmony in the state.
