The newly elected chairman of the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Abu Modu has pledged to continue with the laudable programmes of his predecessors .
Comrade Abu Modu who spoke with the Nigeria Post Newspaper in Minna shortly after his election at the weekend, said while the new executive of the NUJ has its own programmes geared towards improving the lives of members, he will still look into the desirable ones embarked upon by previous administrations.
“I still strongly believe that both the immediate past and others before had some people driven policies and programmes, we shall as a Council look into some of them and adopt those that are relevant to the existence of our members “.
The new Niger state NUJ Chairman stated that he will focus more on how to improve the lives of members and the journalism profession in the state.
To this end, he appealed to member to see their profession as a noble one, which made it mandatory for them to be thorough, objective, fair and professional at all times.
“Journalism is a noble profession, the society can not do without the media. We as professional journalists must not give our platforms to those with clandestine motives, because we must have a secured, safe and conducive environment to all practice as journalists”.
Comrade Abu noted that his election is victory for all, assuring that everyone would be given roles to play inorder to quickly achieve the goals of his administration.
He called on members of the Union in Niger State to always put the interest of the body first above all other things, just as he assured that priority would be given to their welfare.
Comrade Abu Modu appreciated working Journalists in the state for the overwhelming confidence reposed in the new Council, adding that they will work to justify the mandate given to them.
The Vice President of Zone D of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chief Wilson Bako also in an interview with Nigeria Post Newspaper shortly after administering oath of office on the new NUJ Niger Chairman, expressed happiness with the conduct of the election.
Chief Wilson Bako called on the new Chairman to give attention to the needs of members and also ensure peace and unity in all the Chapels in the Council.
Our Correspondent who covered the election reported that most members of the Union in the state described the election as the most peaceful in recent times.
