When amidst the euphoria of Igede Agba festival on September 5, 2022, at Oju Local Government Pavilion, a mammoth crowd of women and youths carried shoulder high the former Deputy Majority leader of Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nick Eworo in a manner likened to the upheaval that greeted King David’s recapture of the Ark of God, it marveled many onlookers, politicians at the unquenchable fame of a man who is currently holding no public office.
For the benefit of hindsight, it is pertinent to recap briefly the rising profile of a man who since stepping into public life has never weaned in popularity.
Rt. Hon. Eworo holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the ancient Ado Bayero University, Kano. Chronicling the public life of this great achiever will make a whole book for another time. However, it is suffice to briefly state that Rt. Hon. Eworo is a successful entrepreneur based in Kano with relative outings in USA.
He used his wealth to impact on the development of Ito people generally that earned him the name ‘Odukelaho’ a sobriquet he used to enter with ease into the Assembly in 2011.
Rt. Hon. Eworo took the centre stage of plenary in the House of Assembly with the entire Igede agenda shoulder high, which made his colleagues nicknamed him “Igede Nation”, beaming him as the symbol of Igede people to the world. Undoubtedly, Rt. Hon. Eworo is a very intelligent fellow with oratory prowess and vibrant performance necessitating the exigency of the creation of the office of Deputy Majority Leader at the state Assembly.
It is on records that Rt. Hon. Eworo brought to government attention the case of acid bathed-Igede girl (name withheld) in the University of Maiduguri sometimes ago.
Eworo superintended over the bill for the creation of Igede First Class stool. He also set out the quality and caliber of the occupant of Adirahu Ny’Igede stool and rooted for HRM Chief Oga Ero (CP Rtd). But for extraneous factors, Rt. Hon. Eworo was at the verge of making Igede nation a paramount kingdom distinct to Tiv and Idoma kingdoms respectively.
Though the contest for Adirahu Ny’Igede stool was fierce, Rt Hon Eworo stood firmly behind HRM Chief Oga Ero (CP Rtd) leading to his eventful installation and coronation as the first First Class Chief of Igede nation.
Subsequently, Rt Hon. Eworo programmed to link Adirahu Ny’ Igede with powerful world leaders and traditional chiefdoms beginning with the historic visit led by HRM Chief Oga Ero (CP Rtd) to the Emir of Kano.
Rt. Hon. Eworo facilitated the electrification of six communities in Obi LGA with the procurement of six transformers and 50 concrete poles from his private pocket.
Today, the Union of ‘Odukelaho Boys’ in Nigeria police is a product of his prompting recruitment of about 37 Igede boys and girls into Nigeria Police . Remarkably too, he engineered the enlisting of 25 Igede indigenes into the regular course of Nigeria Army .
Truly, Rt. Hon. Nick Eworo is a leader and not just a politician. He is a humanitarian par excellence, whose charitable work is indiscriminate across Igede nation.
Till date, no politician of Igede extraction has measured up with his lavished generosity towards the youths, women and entire Igede society.
The blaze of glory in him was rekindled with the award of Chieftaincy title of ‘Ugboji Olega Ny’Igede by Igede Intermediate Area Traditional Council with pomp and pageantry. Rt. Hon. Eworo has earned the love and respect of elites as much as that of the crosssection of entire Igede nation to the admiration of his political traducers.
Interestingly , the Iroko, Ikemba, Odukelaho is summarized in the Igede title ” Ugboji Olega ” which literally translated means the great pillar, dependable helper and defender of Igede people.
Rt. Hon. Eworo is pained that the development strides of Igede nation is very slow; no good road networks, no infrastructural intervention as the leadership vacuum gets wider.
Igede people yearn earnestly for the return to public life of this illustrious son and leader to offer the desired leadership for a nation in political quagmire . Rt Hon Nick Eworo is a man of unquenchable fame , who before now was coronated with the Chieftaincy title of ” Odochu 1 ” by his kinsmen of Ikwokwu Kingdom in Obi Local Govt Council of Benue State . He is a powerful chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC ) in Benue state and holds the ace in the affairs of APC Oju /Obi Federal Constituency .
Rt Hon Nick Eworo is a living legend .
