NEMA AND KOSEMA ENGAGE NSCDC KOGI STATE COMMAND FOR STRONGER COLLABORATION IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT

As part of the one week familiarization visit to Kogi State by the team of National Emergency Management Agency led by the Head Abuja Operations Office, Alhaji Zakaria Abubakar, paid a courtesy visit to the state Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

The Executive Secretary, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), Alh Mouktar Atimah led the team of National Emergency Management Agency Abuja Operations Office to Kogi State NSCDC Headquarters Office, Lokoja.

In his opening remarks, NEMA Head Abuja Operations Office, Alhaji Zakari Abubakar, emphasized that disaster management is multidimensional and there is need to enhance Collaboration in emergency preparedness and response strategies. He further stated that this visit is to strengthen synergy, working relationship and identity joint programmes that would put multiple hands on deck to manage disasters effectively.

The Executive Secretary KOSEMA, appreciated the NSCDC Commandant, Mrs. E. O. Akinlade and her team for hosting them. He added that this visit jointly paid by NEMA and KOSEMA is to ensure further exploration of joint initiatives, foster understanding and collaboration between the agencies.

Responding, the Kogi State commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mrs E.O Akinlade, appreciated National Emergency Management Agency Abuja Operations Office and Kogi State Emergency Management Agency for the timely visit. Her words on key points discussed include the importance of cooperation, sharing best practices and giving necessary support as NSCDC is being recognized as one of the critical stakeholders in disaster management.

The team extended the visit to fire disaster scenes in Zango and Kwewon in Lokoja LGA for on-the-spot assessment. Overall, the visit achieved it’s objectives.
