NAUS Vice President Calls for Proactive Measures to End Insecurity in Nigeria

In a bold step aimed at addressing the burgeoning insecurity in the country, the Office of the National Vice President of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), North Central Zone, convened a Peace and Security Summit in Abuja.
The summit, held at the Nigeria National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja, attracted participants from diverse backgrounds across the country.
Notable attendees included Barrister Jibrin Samuel Okutepa (SAN), Hajiya Ramatu Ibrahim, Director of Contact and Mobilisation for the City Boy Movement (CBM), North Central; Hon. Ishaya Lulu, member representing Bokkos/Mangu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; and Dr. Olusola Odumosu (PhD) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who was represented by his deputy. A representative of the Public Relations Office of the Nigeria Customs Service was also present.
In her opening remarks, the convener and National Vice President of NAUS, Neirat Blessing Henry, expressed delight at the large turnout of participants. She noted that the attendance reflected a shared commitment to finding lasting solutions to insecurity and addressing the religious and ethnic divisions threatening national unity.
Speaking with journalists during the summit, Mrs. Henry urged the Federal Government to adopt more proactive measures in tackling insecurity. She lamented that the North Central geopolitical zone has increasingly become a “theatre of human slaughter,” citing recent attacks in Plateau State where over forty people were reportedly killed by unknown assailants.
She further decried the impact of insecurity on education, noting that academic activities in Nigerian universities and student-populated communities have been severely disrupted due to the recurring violence.
