Nasarawa generates N2.5bn IGR monthly – NSIRS Chair

Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS) says it realises N2.5 billion monthly as internally generated revenue for the state.

The Executive Chairman of NSIRS, Mr Ahmed Yakubu-Muhammad revealed tjis at the opening of a 3-day training for some revenue officers on Tuesday in Lafia.

According to him, the state government had assigned the Service a monthly revenue target of N3 billion, which he believed was feasible in a short amount of time.

“We are on course to hitting that target and surpass it. So far, we have reached N2.5 billion and I am optimistic that before the end of 2025, we would have hit N5 billion mark in IGR, ” he said .

He emphasised that the constant growth in the state’s IGR was due to the knowledge, capacity, and dedication of NSIRS staff members, urging them to strive harder to accomplish the desired objective.

The NSIRS boss said that the board has no reason to disappoint Governor Abdullahi Sule given his efforts to ensure its effective service delivery.

He praised the Governor Sule for not interfering with the Service’s activities, keeping it autonomous and giving it the freedom to employ additional employees without influencing its choice.

Yakubu-Muhammad stated that the purpose of the training was to keep personnel up to date on current trends and developments in tax administration.

He also mentioned that some of the participants were newly hired in order to broaden the breadth of the agency’s ability to improve the state’s income base.

He assured of the agency’s commitment to educating and retraining all levels of staff, as well as providing the necessary working equipment.

“We would not sit back and allow mediocre do the job. If you do not learn, you will be left behind,” he said.

Yakubu-Muhammad promised that the agency would sustain its award presentation to deserving officers as a way of motivation.

He therefore urged the participants to take advantage of the training , saying that it would improve their production, which would determine their career advancement.

On his part, Mr Abraham Orukpe, a representative of Pri-Global Ventures Limited, the training firm, stated that the purpose of the training was to bridge the gap between the tax authorities and tax payers, particularly given the current instability in the Nigerian economy.

According to Orukpe, the training aimed to equip tax authorities in terms of educating and convincing taxpayers about the significance of paying their taxes.

He urged the participants to work hard and consistently in order to become more successful and efficient at their jobs.

Some of the participants, Polycarp Zakaria and Aisha Hassan, praised the NSIRS chairman and administration for providing the training opportunity.

They praised the executive chairman’s leadership style for cultivating a culture of continuous learning, elevating professional capacities, and inspiring them to continually strive for greatness.
