Murder of Sunny Etchie: Court adjourns over security threat

An alleged murder case of the Okaighele of Kolokolo Community, in Ologbo Dukedom before a Benin high court was abruptly adjourned to 11th of June, 2021 for continuous hearing due to security threat within the court premises.

At today’s hearing, when the case was slated to be heard, there was a commotion and loud noise outside the Court which no one knew what was going on, but there was serious altercation outside the court.

Information later filter into the court that it was not safe for the sitting to continue . The judge have to quickly adjourn so that the situation calm down.

Counsel to the 8th accussed person, Ighedosa Imandegbelo, SAN, during the brief break led the other Counsel to the judge’s chamber for a short meeting.

Though no one could really say the root cause of the pandemonium, but the court have to formerly adjourn to 11th of June 2021 for continues hearing.

It was later gathered that, the vigilantes around the premises of the court made an attempt to get one of the suspects who came with
Chief Johnson Atselege led to the
Pandemonium outside the Court.

 

Meanwhile, one of the suspects in the cold blooded murder of late Sunny Etchie ( Okaeghele of Kolokolo in Ologbo DukeDom , Micah Kaka was formerly arraigned in Court today and his plea eqaully taken.

Micah Kaka who was eventualy arrested after a year is being arraigned for the kiddnaping , murder of the Okaeghele of Kolokolo in Ologbo DukeDom.

The judge, Justice Mary Ituseli adjourned the case to 23rd of June 2021.

Chief Johnson Atselege and 11 Others are being arraigned for alleged conspiracy, kidnapping and murder of Mr. Sunny Etchie, the Okaighele of Kolokolo Community in Ologbo Dukedom, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State.

The Defendants’ offence contravened Sections 516, 327 and 316 (1) punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Act , Cap C38, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 2 (2) punishable under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law, 2013 of Edo State.

All the  8 accused persons including, the Iyatsere of Warri kingdom ,Chief Johnson Atseleghe ,  Felicia Otikpere, female – 55; Oluwa Esimije – 38; Monday Iluwa – 58; Ayokotse Robinson – 54; Nosa Omoregie – 54; Mofe Samuel – 40; Magnanimous Omawumi – 40; Ayuwa Mofe – 65, Amerete Ejiro – 25, Onyeburutan Jeffrey – 25 and Benjamin Erewa – 39 were present in Court .
