Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, the Honourable commissioner of Finance, Budgetand Economic planning, Kogi state has expressed deep shock and sadness over the tragic death of Major Gen Olubunmi Irefin- a topnotch military figure and a humanist per excellence.
Major General Irefin until his untimely demise was the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 6 Division and Land Component Commander Operation Delta Safe, Port Harcourt Barracks.
Without micing words, Nigeria has lost a Hero of unusual like, who gave all to his nation and her people; one who defended Nigeria as a committed Senior Army Officer and also upheld the integrity of the Nigerian Army.
Asiwaju in his message of condolence and tribute, posited that late Gen.Irefin was an embodiment of unshaken courage, high intelligence and inalienable loyalty to the country. His excellent service to the nation and humanity will remain Indelible, owing to his impeccable records and humanitarian disposition.
His sterling leadership qualities and unprecedented record of achievement as an outstanding army officer has launched Kogi state and Okun nation to the national map, and much more he will forever be an inspirational symbol to generations yet unborn. Even in death, Gen Irefin will continue to be an Unusual Hero that bestrode the nations military system with unusual dedication and dexterity.
The Honourable commissioner commiserates with the Chief of Army Staff, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor and Government of Kogi State as well as the Okun nation in particular for this heartwrenching and collosal loss of a brave soldier and a renowned scholar.
It is my prayer that God almighty in his endless mercy grant the immediate family and everyone of us the enduring fortitude to bear this loss and grant the repose soul eternal rest
