MRS. AKPABIO’S RESPONSE TO SENATOR NATASHA’S HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS LACKS SUBSTANCE AND DUE PROCESS

The recent dismissal of Senator Natasha Akpoti’s allegations against Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio by his wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, raises more questions than answers. Instead of addressing the claims with transparency and encouraging due process, Mrs. Akpabio has chosen to rely on personal defenses, emotional appeals, and legal threats—an approach that does not resolve the issue.

First, Mrs. Akpabio’s assertion that she was present at their family residence on the alleged date does not serve as an alibi unless backed by verifiable proof that Senator Akpabio could not have been involved. Simply stating that both families share a cordial relationship does not invalidate the possibility of misconduct.

Second, citing Senator Akpabio’s history of supporting women in government is irrelevant to the matter at hand. Public advocacy for women’s inclusion does not automatically exonerate anyone from allegations of misconduct, as personal and professional conduct can often differ.

Third, Mrs. Akpabio’s threat of legal action appears to be a means of intimidation rather than a step toward truth-seeking. If her husband is truly innocent, an independent and impartial investigation should be welcomed, not avoided.

The allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti deserve to be taken seriously, not dismissed through mere verbal denials. The Nigerian public deserves clarity, and the best way to achieve that is through a transparent and fair investigative process.
