MORE SECTIONS OF THE ABUJA–LOKOJA FEDERAL HIGHWAY OPENED TO TRAFFIC, BRINGING WELCOME RELIEF TO MOTORISTS AND TRAVELLERS ALONG THE CORRIDOR.

As part of the ongoing monitoring of Federal road projects in Kogi State by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Federal Projects Implementation, Chief Hon. Emmanuel I. Obasi, JP, reports indicate that GELD Construction Limited has opened its completed section on Abuja–Lokoja Section III, from Chainage 82+325 to Chainage 92+050, covering approximately 9.725 kilometres. The section was opened to traffic on 30 September 2026.

Earlier, on 18 September 2026, Trucrete Solutions Limited opened another newly constructed 5-kilometre section along the Koto–Gegu axis, within the approximately 20-kilometre section of the project.

These openings are particularly significant for motorists who have had to contend with prolonged diversions, slow movement and traffic congestion along the Abuja–Lokoja corridor.

At the Critical Stakeholders’ Meeting on Traffic Management held on 16 September 2026 at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, Chief Obasi emphasized the need to accelerate ongoing road works and turn completed sections to safe and usable sections, properly manage diversions and avoid unnecessary road closures that add to the difficulties faced by motorists along Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway and it’s reverse corridor.

The opening of these sections by GELD Construction Limited and Trucrete Solutions Limited is therefore a welcome development. It means more usable road space, improved traffic movement and some measure of relief for travellers using this important highway.

The Federal Ministry of Works under the workaholic Minister Sen Engr David Nweze Umahi, its supervising teams and the contractors working along the corridor deserve commendation for the progress recorded so far. The continued attention of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, together with the engagement of the Kogi State Government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, remains important to sustaining progress on these critical road projects.

Every kilometre opened to traffic can mean shorter delays, fewer diversions, reduced congestion and a less stressful journey for thousands of people moving between Abuja, Kogi and other parts of the country.

There is still considerable work to be done on the corridor, and the expectation is that construction will continue at an accelerated pace, with other completed and safe sections opened to traffic as work progresses.

The Office of the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Federal Projects Implementation will continue to monitor developments and engage with the relevant authorities and contractors on issues affecting the progress and usability of Federal projects in the State.
