Maltreatment, Abuse of Boy in Kogi, CPI Commends Gov. Bello For Swift Response, Revealed How Culprit Was Arrested.


 

The Executive Director, Challenged Parenthood Initiatives, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, who discovered and unraveled the maltreatment and abuse of David Mathew Ewongolu by his step mother has commended Gov. Yahaya Bello for his swift responses to take up the medical bills of the boy.

 

Recall that following maltreatment and abuse by his step mother, David Mathew Ewongolu, whose father is a soldier, sustained various degrees of injuries on his bottocks.

The Executive Director CPI disclosed that the case was first reported to her last week Friday when someone from Abuja forwarded the pictures of the woman and the boy that have been trending on social media.

Speaking with thenigerianpost, the Executive Director said she immediately swung into action by calling Mr. Williams Ayah the Police PRO who immediately refered her to D Division were she met with the DPO and reported the case, leading to actions that led to the arrest of the woman.

The Executive Director said she further called the Director Child MWASD to ask her if they were aware of the case and was told that they also are making efforts following the reports to have the woman arrested.

According to her, ” I was at the police headquarters yesterday together with the Ministry of women affairs and FIDA. After the woman was arrested and put in the cell. We took the boy to the Police Clinic for treatment. CPI paid for all the initial treatment yesterday after which I called the Commissioner that the Ministry needs to provide shelter for the boy because the father wants to take him back to the same house were the child was abused and I immediately said that it cannot happen.

The Commissioner then called the SSG and they came to meet me and finally resolved to take him to State Specialist hospital.

I and the SSG left the specialist hospital around 9:00pm yesterday night.

The Executive Director commended Gov. Bello for his interest in the matter and for directing that the State Government will foot all the bills, lauded the SSG for her interest in the matter, said she was actually at the hospital till night.

The Executive Director used the opportunity to request the Gov. Bello to kindly assent to the Kogi State Violence Against Prohibition Persons Bill passed by the State Assembly about a year ago, pointing out that it has the propensity to check the rising violence and abuse.

She said considering the rate of abuses and violence that is perpetrated against women and children in the state, the VAPP Bill will go along way to reducing violence and abuses if signed into law.
She pointed out that the present predicament of David Mathew Ewongolu
is receiving action currently because it was brought to the fore by many person’s, disclosed that many of such abuses are happen and there’s no voice to speak for them

It would be recalled that after thorough interrogation, Mrs. Elizabeth Abu who is Married to Ewongolu Emmanuel confessed to the crime, saying she did not intend to inflict such pain on the boy.
