MAIGARI OF LOKOJA CONFERS “JARUMIN LAKWAJA” TITLE ON COMMISSIONER ABUBAKAR BASHIR GEGU

… Honour Recognizes Exemplary Leadership and Impact in Solid Minerals Sector

HRH Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Maikarfi IV, the Maigari of Lokoja, has conferred the revered traditional title of “Jarumin Lakwaja” on Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.

“Jarumi” in Hausa translates to “Warrior” or “Champion” — a title reserved for individuals distinguished by courage, visionary leadership, and selfless service to community. The conferment recognizes Engr. Gegu’s exceptional contributions to the development of Lokoja and his transformative stewardship of Kogi’s solid minerals sector since assuming office.

Under Engr. Gegu’s watch, Kogi’s solid minerals portfolio has moved from potential to performance. He has championed policies that formalize artisanal mining, attract responsible investors, and ensure communities directly benefit from resource exploitation. His distinguishing ability to combine technical expertise with people-centered governance has produced safer mining practices, improved revenue flows to the state, and new opportunities for youth and local enterprises across Lokoja and beyond.

Beyond his portfolio, Engr. Gegu is widely acknowledged for consistent grassroots engagement. From infrastructure support to empowerment programs, his commitment to Lokoja’s growth has made him a visible, accessible public servant. That rare blend of competence, humility, and results has turned him into a star that cannot be hidden — a name now synonymous with progress and integrity in Kogi.

The letter of conferment was personally delivered to Engr. Gegu at his Gegu Beki residence by the Shettima of Lokoja, Alh. Muhammad Mabo Kasim, in a ceremony attended by palace chiefs and community stakeholders.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Engr. Gegu expressed gratitude to the Maigari and people of Lokoja, pledging to sustain the values of service, bravery, and excellence that the title “Jarumin Lakwaja” represents.

The Maigari’s decision cements what many in Kogi already know: true leadership reveals itself through impact, and Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu continues to embody that standard.
