Lokoja GSM Market Inferno: House of Reps Member, Hon. Aguye, Others Visit Scene, Donate N1m, Solar Lights To Victims
The Member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency Hon. Danladi Sulaiman Aguye, the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf and some political appointees Monday commiserated with victims of the fire which gutted a section of Lokoja GSM market, opposite Jaiz Bank.
The early morning inferno which was caused by an electrical fault has affected a number of shops where goods worth millions of naira were reportedly lost due to the raging fire.
The lawmaker who visited the market to inspect the extent of damage by the inferno, said that the government would assist the traders affected to get back to their businesses.
He appealed to the victims of the fire disaster not to despair but to rather take the unfortunate accident as a misfortune that can befall anyone.
He said they are jointly donating the sum of one million naira to the victims to cushion their loses assuring that government will continue to accord priority to traders in the state for the economy to flourish.
In his capacity as member representing the Constituency, Aguye also donated ten solar street lights to the GSM market.
Chairman of the market, Mr Joel Tunde Omoyi, thanked the lawmaker and members of his entourage for finding time out of their busy schedule to visit the GSM market and commiserate with the victims.
He also appreciated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for assisting the victims of the fire, assuring that the money donated will be judiciously distributed across the victims in the market.
Aguye was accompanied to the GSM market by the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, member representing Lokoja 1 State constituency, Hon. Shehu Tijjani Ebaiya, former house of representatives member, Hon. Haruna Isa, Engr Danladi Yahaya Faruq, Commissioner for Water Resources, for chairman of Lokoja LGA, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu and other top government functionaries.
