Lokoja Day 2021: Gov Bello promises more development for Kogi State Capital.


 

 

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has promised to sustain the socioeconomic turnaround going on across the state under his leadership, especially in Lokoja, the capital.

He gave the assurance on Sunday in an address at the occasion of Lokoja Day Celebration which took place at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler, the Maigari of Lokoja.

The Governor was represented at the event by the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Abubakar Bashir Muhammad Gegu.

Governor Bello said he recognizes the place of the town as the cradle of Nigeria, saying being founded on the 12th of September 1860 further solidifies its unique place in history as a town where the unity of Nigeria started.

He said while it is common knowledge that the country got its name from the ancient city, it is also justified that his administration is giving the city the attention it deserves through improved infrastructure and recognition of the people’s culture.

Governor Bello stressed that peace is necessary for any development to take root, and thanked the people of the area for being accommodating and hospitable as exemplified by the continued coexistence of inhabitants without fracas.

The Governor who specially thanked the Maigari of Lokoja for his peaceful disposition and commitment to harmonious existence among his subjects, promised to continue to execute Projects and implement policies that would engender peace in Lokoja.

The Governor equally noted that the decision to recognize Lokoja as the investment capital of Nigeria was not something that happened overnight, but as a result of deliberate efforts to encourage sustenance of peace and tranquility which is the desire of the Maigari and the entire people of the city. He urged them to keep to the efforts.

As a recently pronounced oil producing state in Nigeria, the Governor said several investment opportunities are coming to Lokoja and the state in general, and called on citizens of the area to continue to imbibe peace and work in harmony with the Maigari.

While praying for continued peace in the town, the Governor noted that his administration is ready to work assiduously to promote culture and tourism for an improved economy for Kogi State.

Highlights of the occasion was the turbanning of two sons of the area as the Cigari and Lerama of Lokoja respectively. Those honoured were an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Sanusi and a Retired Master Warrant Officer of the Nigerian Air Force, Alhaji Muhammed Adamu Gambo.
