Leke Abejide Commissions Okeaga Road in Odo-Ere, Highlights Ongoing Infrastructure Projects in Yagba West

Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has commissioned the newly constructed Okeaga Road in Odo-Ere, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, describing road infrastructure as a vital driver of economic growth and community development.

The commissioning marks another addition to the infrastructure projects being undertaken across the federal constituency, with Abejide reaffirming his commitment to improving rural connectivity and creating an enabling environment for commercial activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the lawmaker said the development of road infrastructure remained essential to accelerating economic activities, improving access to markets and strengthening connections among communities.

He noted that the occasion went beyond the formal opening of a road, describing it as an opportunity to recognise the importance of translating development plans and promises into projects that directly benefit the people.

“Today, our gathering goes beyond the commissioning of a road. We are here to celebrate vision translated into reality, promises transformed into tangible outcomes, and leadership measured by impact,” Abejide said.

The federal lawmaker explained that road construction and rehabilitation had remained among his priorities since assuming office, stressing that accessible roads were necessary for social and economic progress.

According to him, several roads across the constituency have been rehabilitated, while other projects are at different stages of completion. He assured residents that more interventions would be undertaken to address infrastructure needs across the three local government areas.

Abejide also highlighted the ongoing development of the Oja Opè project in Odo-Ere, noting that the construction of an ultra-modern market was nearing completion.

The market project, located around the Okeaga area, was reported to be about 90 per cent complete at the time of the announcement. It is designed to accommodate both open and enclosed shops, alongside other facilities intended to support trading activities and improve the local economy.

The project is expected to complement the road infrastructure by improving access for traders, customers and other users of the market, although its overall economic impact will depend on its completion and effective utilisation.

Abejide assured residents that his commitment to rural infrastructure development would continue, emphasising that better road connectivity could expand economic opportunities, ease movement and help local communities realise their development potential.

The commissioning ceremony attracted prominent political leaders and other stakeholders from Yagba West, who joined residents to witness the formal opening of the Okeaga Road.

The road project and the ongoing market construction reflect the importance of infrastructure investment in supporting rural commerce, improving accessibility and promoting community development across Yagba Federal Constituency.
