Kwara Assures Veteran Journalists Of Support


 

Kwara state government has assured the veteran journalists residents in the state of its support at all times.

It pledged to give special consideration to the senior journalists in all it’s emerging welfare programmes for the people of the state.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the chief press secretary to the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave this assurance when the state executives of the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) led by their chairman, Alh Tunde Akanbi paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Ilorin.

Ajakaye who told his visitors that Governor AbdulRazaq holds journalists – serving and retired in high esteem because of the crucial roles they play in the development of the society, said they would not be left out in all the welfare programmes of the state government now and in future.

He also thanked both working and veteran journalists in the state for their support for the programmes and activities of the state government.

Earlier, the state chairman of NALVEJ, Alh Tunde Akanbi, had intimated Ajakaye about the activities of the union and the planned 26th year anniversary of the league coming up in June, 2021.

He thanked the state government for the comprehensive renovation of the press centre of the Kwara state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the extension of COVID-19 palliatives to the members of the league during the lockdown period.

While assuring the government of the continued support of the members of the league, Akanbi urged it to ensure the welfare of the veteran journalists in the state.

He also thanked the chief press secretary for his passion for the development of journalism practice and the well being of all journalists working in the state, especially the veterans, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the NUJ.
