KONGONET Chairperson Attributes Sustained Advocacy in Fight Against GBV to Increase 2024 Budgetary Provisions

The improvement in allocation to fighting Gender Based Issues to line Ministry’s in the 2024 Kogi State budget has been described as the collective efforts of Civil Society Organizations working in concerted efforts.
Amb. Muraina Idris Ozovehe, Chairperson of Kogi Civil Society Organizations Network, KONGONET, made the disclosure during a presentation at a one day capacity building workshop organized by FIDA Nigeria, held in Lokoja.
The Drafting Workshop on a roadmap for a gender Responsive framework in Kogi State had CSOs and other relevant stakeholders brainstorming on the need for sustained advocacy and close monitoring of the budgetary provisions.
In his presentation on An overview on the Gender Responsiveness of Kogi State budget 2024, Amb. Muraina called for sustained advocacy by the CSOs in the State in Implementation, tracking and the release of the funds allocated.
Amb. Muraina expressed appreciation that for the first time, the State witnessed an increase in allocation to the fight against Gender Based Issues.
He said the success recorded by the 2024 budget is a testimony that concerted advocacy pays pay, called for more concerted efforts and vigilance on the part of the CSOs.
He called for the Implementation of the recommendations and measures by the CSOs which he observed and explained will contribute to a more effective and comprehensive strategy for promoting gender equality, mitigating the challenges faced by Women and girls in Kogi State.
He called for strengthening of interministerial collaboration, advocated for the expansion of family courts, establishment of functional children’s home.
Other measures he said can improve the work of CSOs in ensuring that the allocation to line Ministry’s are released and tracked include, capacity building on follow up for releases.
Furthermore, continued advocacy,
formulating inclusive budgetary strategies towards sustained commitment to issues of funding of Gender Based responsiveness he maintained remains the alternative for CSOs in building on the gains recorded in the 2024 budget.
