Governor Nwifuru is Committed to reactivating Local Government System in Ebonyi- Nwasum

The Chairman Local Government service commission in Ebonyi State, Chief Romanus Nwasum has expressed the commitment and dedication of the State Governor Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru towards reactivating Local Government System in the State.

Chief Nwasum made the assertion when he led commissioners in the Commission on routine monitoring to the various Development Centers including Ishielu North, Ishielu West, Inyiaba North, Inyaba and Ishielu all in Ishielu Local Government of the State.

He said the essence of the monitoring was to ascertain the level of workers attendance to duty and urged workers in the area to be alive to their official duties to achieve the objectives in which the Development Centers were created, saying that in the subsequent visit any staff who was not on duty would be sanctioned accordingly.

The Chairman enjoined the workers to cultivate the habit of attending to work by 8am and dismiss 4pm as to reciprocate the regular payment of salaries by the State Government in other to restore the last glory of local Government system.

He urged Development Center Coordinators to partner effectively with the Commission towards enhancing workers regular attendance to duties in their various DC’s, even as it would assist the Coordinators in running their activities.

At Ishielu Development Center where many staff were on ground at the time visited, the Commission Chairman commended the workers for their dedication and commitment to duty. He also appreciated the DC Coordinator Hon. Ogazi Chris for ensuring workers in the area come to work and urged other DC Coordinators in the State to emulate from him.

In another Development, Chief Nwasum expressed worry on the dilapidated building of Inyaba North Development especially as trees germinated and grown inside the building destroying it.

He lamented that the Development poses serious threat on the lives of the workers and charged the Coordinator to liase with Stakeholders in the area with the view to finding conducive place for the workers.

The Commissioner 1 of the Commission Architect Augstine Nwechara expressed gratitude to God for the success so far recorded in the journey and appreciated Governor Nwifuru for given them the opportunity to tour round all the Development centers and Local Government Areas in the State.

He said the visit has yielded fruit as many workers are now seen in their offices, adding that the commission would not relent until the set objectives are achieved.

In their seperate speeches, the Commissioner 2 of the Commission Hon. Monday Nwigbo, commissioner 5 Barr. Kelvin Ituma and director personnel management Prince Patrick Akputa all advised the workers to be more dedicated to their official as the era of workers being at home and receive their salaries has gone.

Some of the Coordinators including Hon. Emeka Odanwu of Ishielu North, Ishielu DC Hon. Ogazi Chris, Ishielu West Hon. Ali Chukwuemeka and Hon. Ogbuewu Moses of Inyaba North extolled the Chairman and members of the commission for the visit and pledged to ensure workers in their various Development Centers come to work regularly.

In a related Development, the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission Chief Romanus Nwasum has received the State and local Government Areas leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abakaliki.

Addressing the people, the Local Government service commission boss commended the union for the visit and described it as very timely.

Chief Nwasum who underscored the role of NULGE in the Local Government system, noted that if NULGE plays its role very well Local Government and Ebonyi State would be better, adding that Local Government without functional NULGE is meaningless.

He urged the NULGE leadership to show high level of cooperation and solidarity to the Commission at all times so as to achieve the objectives in which it was created.

He further urged the union to exercise patience with the current leadership in the State led by Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, whom he described as God sent as he has good welfare packages for workers in the State.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Nigeria union of local Government employees in Ebonyi State Mr Ewah Stanley congratulated the Chairman and and commissioners in the Commission on their deserved appointments and urged them to take NULGE as integral stakeholder in administering the affairs of the commission.

He further urged the Chairman to assist them in ensuring that their salaries are paid to them as at when due.

He however stressed the need for training and retraining of staff for effective and efficient service delivery and called on the commission to assist in producing identity cards for Local Government workers in the State.
