Kogi Youth And Sports Commissioner Inaugurates Committee For Maiden Mount Patti
Race, Assures Of Upgrade Of Sports Facility
The main organizing committee for the maiden Mount Patti Hunt Race has been inaugurated.
The Kogi state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe who inaugurated the committee in his office in Lokoja, expressed happiness that the race which was conceived some time ago was finally coming to fruition.
He said the race would be a historic event that would two in One, attracting both local and international participants.
The Commissioner while pledging the support of the State government through the Ministry of youth and sports development for the success of the race, urged the committee to live above board towards the actualization of the project.
The Co-chair of the Committee and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Momoh Steven Aziz, said one of the objectives of the race was to showcase the tourism attraction of the State.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Fadili Abdulraheem assured that there would be application of global best practice in the mountain race.
He said all participants would be assured and undergo drug test in line with global practices.
Mr Abdulraheem who maintained that some members of the ten man committee were drawn from the state Ministries of environment and tourism, saying the race would not only showcase the environment and tourism potentials of the State, but also boost its revenue base.
In the meantime, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria has presented some Sports items to Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo and the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr AridaOjo Monday Anyebe in view of the outstanding performance of the states contingents at the just concluded Nigerian Athletics Masters competition held in Abuja.
Kogi state contingents worn four gold, two bronze and five silver medals at the competition.
Presenting the sports items, the Director, Kogi State Sports Council, Mr. James Igah Abel, commended the state government for its continued support to sporting activities in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Monday Anyebe who received the items on behalf of Governor Usman Ododo observed that the state was making steady progress in sporting activities, appearances and on the medals collection.
While congratulating the athletes and their coaches for making the state proud, Mr. Anyebe urged them not to be discouraged, assuring that the sporting facility in the state would soon be upgraded, stressing that the Governor has granted approval for it’s renovation.
