Fresh political tension is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West Senatorial District following allegations of attempts to tamper with the officially declared result of the party’s senatorial primary election.

The controversy emerged shortly after the APC primary election that produced Sunday Karimi as the party’s candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
Fake
The Returning Officer for the exercise, Haruna Isah, had officially declared Senator Karimi winner after polling a landslide 51,665 votes to defeat four other aspirants in the contest.
The official figures released showed:
Senator Sunday Karimi Steve — 51,665 votes
Samuel Aro — 620 votes
Smart Adeyemi — 571 votes
Alhaji Abubakar Zakari Ola — 414 votes
Elizabeth Adedoyin — 18 votes
The certified result was subsequently submitted to the chairman of the APC Kogi State Senatorial Primary Election Committee.
However, credible party sources alleged that shortly after the declaration, some individuals allegedly began moves aimed at interfering with the officially certified outcome of the election.
Stakeholders within the party further claimed that another set of figures was allegedly being circulated, raising concerns over possible attempts to undermine the credibility of the primary process.
The development has reportedly generated anxiety among party loyalists and supporters across the seven local government areas of Kogi West, where many believe the overwhelming margin reflected the clear choice of delegates.
Political stakeholders have therefore warned that any attempt to manipulate the outcome could trigger avoidable internal crisis and weaken the credibility of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They called on the national leadership of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to protect the integrity of the primary process by ensuring that the officially declared result remains intact.
According to them, preserving transparency and fairness within the party’s internal electoral system remains essential to maintaining the confidence of members and strengthening the APC’s democratic image ahead of future elections.
