The historic town of Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area was shook to it’s root today as the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) of Nigeria, commenced it’s Senatorial consultations in Kogi West with Yagba Federal Constituency Stakeholders’ meeting at the town hall today.
Yagba Federal Constituency is made of three Local Government Areas, namely Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West with Isanlu as its headquarters.
The meeting which is at the instance of the State Executive of the party, was led by the State Deputy Chairman who, himself is from Kogi West, Honourable Samuel Abenemi, accompanied by, Bar. Hon. Alfred Bello, the state Treasurer; Chief Paul Oludoyi, the state Auditor; Mr. Kingsley Mokikan, state Assistant Youth Leader; Mr. Tunde Agbana, state Assistant Treasurer; Mrs. Elizabeth Dauda, an ex-Officio, while on the other hand, the hosts were led by Chief Hassan Salau, Chairman Emeritus, Hon. Ganiyu Salaudeen Erukutu, Hon. T.J Faniyi, Hon. Dayo Akande who represented the former Deputy Governor, H.E Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, Chief Pa Osamo, High Chief Iwalaiye, Elder Onibiyo Elisha, Bar. Gboyega Kolade, Dr. Ayoola, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Mustapha; Hon Shimoyan, one time former Speaker of Kogi state House of Assembly, various Ward Chairmen, all the three LGA Chairmen of the party and their Excos and the host of other dignitaries across the 34 wards, who were on ground to receive the team on their arrival at the filled-to-bream Town Hall at about 1200 hour.
The Deputy State Chairman in his opening remark, stated that the meeting is an ongoing event that will go round the Senatorial district to consult with party members, seek their understanding, cooperation and sort advice from them on ways’ forward and above all to reassure them that the party is not silent as against some supposed perspectives held by some, he reminded them that the party is in opposition and doing it’s best to remain accountable to its teeming great members and the good people of Kogi state at large. He went further to thank the people for standing bye and with the party in this hard times and prayed that by God’s mercies and grace, we shall sail through and have every reasons to rejoice when the party returns to power by next election by God’s grace.
Appeals were made for peace and mutual resolution of matters at the party’s forthcoming Congresses at the Wards and LG by Hon. Alfred Bello, a one time member of Kogi State House of Assembly from Kabba/Bunu, who pleaded for understanding and wider consultations to avoid throwing the party into confusions, which may include legal tussles and crisis, he added that, as much as possible, everyone that needed to be carried along should be and the instrument of dialogue be deplored to arrive at consensus candidates.
In his message to the meeting, H.E Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, the former Deputy Governor in the state, who spoke through Hon. Dayo Akande, regretted his inability to make the meeting due to other pressing party assignments at the national level, as he appreciates members who have kept faith with the party and who stayed away from anti party activities, assuring them that, by God’s grace the party will bounce back.
On his own part, Chief Hon. Paul Oludoyi, asked the three LGA Chairmen to return home and replicate what the state has done to reconcile its members and where possible the estranged ones and those who left the party and are willing to return be received, he opined that all is needed on board.
Going forward, the Chairmen were told to note that returnees or decampees will have to join the queue, as this is the only way to encourage members that stood with the party to remain firm and protected.
Several ideas were suggested and observations made, which the party promised to look at and get back to it’s members at all levels, as other matters bothering on the Senate and House of reps for 2023 were in view at the meeting and regarded as ongoing.
The Assistant state Youth Leader, Mr. Kingsley Mokikan, sued for the involvements of the Youths by ceding them roles to play and consequently allowing them to vie for offices.
Chief Abenemi who thanked all the members of the party in attendance for coming, also apologized to those not consulted yet, that this its just a Stakeholders’ meeting, which in due course will bring about larger ones.
Members expressed their resolve to remain with the party and to work for it deeply, several Goodwill messages were delivered at the event by different speakers from all the three (3) LGAs, while Hon. Abraham Christopher, a pioneer member of Kogi state House of Assembly added his voice to the return of conduct of LG elections to federal electoral body to give LG elections credibility.
The meeting ended in pomp and pageantry as members exchanged pleasantries.
