KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT SET TO SUPPORT RURAL FARMERS ON RICE PRODUCTION, APPEALS FOR COOPERATION
In its bid to ensure that farmers in the State get all the necessary support needed to increase their annual yields, Kogi State Government through the Kogi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KG-ACReSAL) Project has set in motion, modalities for providing support to selected rice farmers in the State.
Speaking to farmers at Ejule-ojeba community in Ibaji LGA, Geregu and Magajiya communities in Lokoja LGA and Budon in Kogi LGA, the Project Coordinator, Kogi ACReSAL, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto-OON said the initiative will support rice farmers with training on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), farm inputs, improved seedlings and pesticides.
According to the Project Coordinator, who was represented by the Environmental Safeguard Officer of the Project, Samson Benu Mopah, a total of fifty (50) farmers in each community will be involved in the pilot scheme.
In all the communities visited, the Traditional Rulers, speaking on behalf of their subjects were full of appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo the Executive Governor of Kogi State Government for the laudable gesture through the ACReSAL Project; whilst also pledging their commitment in ensuring that the initiative succeeds, as it will go a long way in improving their livelihoods and take them out of poverty.
