… Says culture is our treasure, we must preserve it
The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed led the Kogi State Delegation to attend the annual Amaseikumor festival of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State on Saturday 24th April, 2021
The Amaseikumor festival, a traditional celebration of the Gbaramatu people believe to be over 1000 years old in Delta State is one of the oldest festivals celebrated for seven days. This festival attracts people from all walks of life including first class traditional rulers, traditional Ijaw worshippers, politicians and spectators from Nigeria and around the globe.
Speaking on behalf of his Excellency the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Deputy Speaker said the Amaseikumor Festival is very remarkable and symbolic as it continues to promote the Ijaw culture and tradition. He said as Africans, we have a culture and it has nothing to do with our religion, and as such, it must be respected and preserved so that our children and grandchildren will learn the ways of our forefathers for peace and unity in the land.
“Nigeria is a multicultural society with over 250 languages and in Kogi State, our Governor is a firm believer of it’s culture, traditions and beliefs. We are here on behalf of his Excellency to celebrate with you and identify with your rich cultural heritage.
Among those who attended the epoch-making event were first-class traditional rulers, eminent Nigerians, captains of industry and members of the political class came from all walks of life to celebrate with the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba. The Former Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, HRM, King Elder (Capt.)
