KOGI POLICE, INEC PLEDGE STRONGER COLLABORATION FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS
The Kogi State Police Command and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure peaceful, credible, and transparent elections in the state.
This followed a courtesy visit by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC, Kogi State, Dr. Abdulwahab Shehu, to the Commissioner of Police, CP Nazir Bello Kankara, psc, mni, at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja on April 28, 2026.
Dr. Shehu said the visit was aimed at strengthening the working relationship between INEC and the Nigeria Police Force, noting that both institutions play critical roles in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. He stressed that effective synergy is essential for the successful conduct of elections across Kogi State.
Responding, CP Kankara described INEC and the Police as “Siamese twins” whose functions are closely interlinked, particularly during elections. He emphasized that the two institutions must operate in harmony to achieve their shared goal of delivering free, fair, and peaceful polls.
The Commissioner of Police assured the REC of the Command’s unwavering commitment to providing adequate security before, during, and after elections. He reiterated the readiness of the Police to support INEC in all lawful ways to ensure the process remains free of violence, intimidation, and malpractice.
Both parties pledged to sustain collaboration, strategic planning, and continuous engagement to reinforce the state’s electoral security architecture.
The Command, under CP Kankara’s leadership, also restated its resolve to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all residents. It called on the public to cooperate with security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and a credible electoral process.
