Kogi State Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr Olusegun Joseph, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change, Hon Michael Onimisi Ajibade, held a strategic meeting with Dr. Sam Ogallah, a renowned climate expert and African Union Senior Climate Change Advisor, at the ongoing COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The meeting, which focused on resource mobilization and development opportunities, highlighted the state’s commitment to addressing climate change and its impacts on sustainable development.

Speaking at the session, the Commissioner noted that the state is exploring partnerships to secure funding and technical support for environmental projects aimed at boosting resilience to climate challenges.

“Kogi State is determined to leverage global platforms like COP29 to mobilize resources that will facilitate developmental initiatives and improve the livelihoods of our people. Our discussions with Dr. Ogallah are a step in this direction,” he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change reiterated the administration’s dedication to fostering environmentally friendly projects, citing the need for collaborative efforts to attract investments in renewable energy, reforestation, and climate-smart agriculture.

“Kogi State is strategically positioning itself as a model for subnational climate action in Nigeria. Our focus is on practical solutions that yield tangible benefits for the people,” the Special Adviser added.
