….seeks resuscitation of state-media outfits for optimal services
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State chapter has commended the State government for its massive rural and urban development drive through the provision of quality projects in the state.
The union in a communique issued after its congress in Lokoja on Saturday acknowledged the enormous strides of the Gov. Yahaya Bello-led administration for giving priority attention to basic infrastructures in the state.
The union noted that the state is witnessing unprecedented and critical infrastructure development under the present administration.
According to the communique, the availability of infrastructure is critical for the socio-economic development of the people
The union commended Gov. Bello for demonstrating in no small measure rare commitments to the service of the people of the state.
It particularly described as unequal and unprecedented in the history of the state, the construction of the first flyover in the state, noting that the initiative is as a result of the drive to reposition the state for core investments and tourism attraction.
It also applauded Gov. Bello for constructing a mind-boggling and state-of-the-art civic center, describing it as a judicious utilization of scarce resources available to the state.
The communique said the President Muhammadu Buhari Civic Center is a symbol of Bello’s ongoing silent revolution in the state.
The project, the union maintained, would place the administration in an enviable pedestal, and facilitate the needed cooperation from citizens towards government programmes and projects.
The union also highlighted the on-going reconstruction and rehabilitation of township roads in and around Lokoja, the state capital.
The union however called the attention of the administration to resuscitate the moribund State Broadcasting Corporation which has been off air over time, urging it to urgently initiate the necessary process for the restoration of the station back on air to close the existing communication gaps in the state.
It also enjoined the administration to look into the problems of the state-owned newspaper, The Graphic, and reposition it for better performance.
The communique also appealed to the state government to include the Lokoja-Zango-Kabba junction road, Zone 8-House of Assembly, Army Signal, Mount Patti roads in its calender to ease transportation and
further create opportunities to increase socio-economic activities in the areas.
The union expressed appreciation to the governor for supporting and creating an enabling environment for media practitioners in the state to discharge their duty.
