The Olude of Takete Ide, His Royal Highness, HRH, Oba Philip Ebilakun has emphasized that a traditional chieftaincy title is a position of honour and called on awardees to exhibit high level of self discipline and respect for cultural norms.
The Olude gave the charge in his palace at the weekend, during the investiture of a politician and businessman, Chief Temitope Atte as the Obahao of Takete Ide, Amuro in MopAmuro Local Government Area of Kogi State. The respected monarch explained that traditional titles are not for sale, but reserved in strict recognition for deserving sons, daughters and friends of the community.
He warned that a refusal by any Chief to abide by the high demands of his office can attract his removal or other strict punishments. “By this investiture, you are expected to be a good ambassador of this community at all times. We have found you worthy of the stool of your fathers and hope you will continue in their great examples.”
Oba Ebilakun called on his subjects to continue to live in peace and unity, noting that development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.

In a comment, Chief Obahao, supported by Lady Benita, his wife, thanked the traditional council for conffering the title on him and promised to abide by all the dos and don’ts of the office. He said he will not stop working for the peace and development of the community within the limits of his resources.
“I am delighted to ascend the stool of my forefathers. It could only have been God. I see this as a call to duty and pray for God’s wisdom to discharge the functions of this office with courage and Justice.”
