Residents of Kogi Local Government Area have applauded the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Abubakar Gegu, for what they described as purposeful leadership, transparency, and a “landmark” empowerment program in the area.

In a statement issued on behalf of the people of Kogi LGA by Hon. Iliyas Gambo, the community said Engr. Bashiru, popularly known as “Engr. Bash,” embodies the leadership values that are strengthening support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi West.

The statement noted that the Commissioner has distinguished himself through humility, diligence, and people-centered service, reflecting the governance approach of Governor Alh. Usman Ahmed Ododo.

“Engr. Bash mirrors the leadership philosophy of his principal, His Excellency Alh. Usman Ahmed Ododo, the Servant Leader of Kogi State. He has chosen service over self, and people over protocol. That is why the masses identify with him and why APC continues to gain ground in Kogi West,” the statement said.

The people specifically commended the Commissioner for initiating a grassroots intervention in Kogi LGA targeting widows, youths, women groups, and vulnerable households.

“This is service beyond politics. It is not for cameras or noise. It is direct support to the poorest of the poor — those who cannot repay you. At a time of economic hardship, this effort has put food on tables, provided starter packs to women, and restored hope in many homes across Kogi LGA,” the statement read.

The community added that such impact is the standard of governance expected and has secured Engr. Bashiru “a lasting place in the hearts of the people of Kogi LGA.”

Describing him as “a technocrat turned politician with a difference,” the statement said the Commissioner’s ministry is key to unlocking the benefits of Kogi State’s vast solid mineral resources.

“He has brought competence, character, and sincerity to public service. At a time when citizens are losing confidence in government, Bashiru’s conduct shows that APC can still produce leaders of integrity,” it added.

According to the statement, the increasing support for APC in Kogi LGA is linked to visible and verifiable results delivered by leaders like Engr. Bashiru.

“People follow performance. When APC translates to jobs, empowerment, accountability, and service, the people respond. Engr. Bashiru is one of the shining examples making that case in Kogi West,” the statement said.

The people prayed for God’s guidance upon the Commissioner and his family, and called on other public office holders to emulate his combination of competence, humility, and connection to the grassroots.

“Kogi State needs more leaders like this — leaders who fight poverty in their communities with the same energy they bring to public office. That is the APC we believe in. That is the Renewed Hope we stand for,” the statement concluded.
