Kogi Lawyer, Barr. Elukpo Demands Transparency in NIWA Vehicle Sale Within 7 Days.
A Kogi State-based lawyer, Barr. Chief Julius Elukpo, has given the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) seven days to provide information on the sale of vehicles belonging to the authority, allegedly sold as unserviceable without following due process by the immediate past Managing Director in 2025.
In a letter dated 23/3/26, Elukpo invoked the Freedom of Information Act 2011, seeking details on the vehicles sold, including the make, year of manufacture, purchase price, and sale price.
He also further wants to know the names of individuals, bodies, or organizations that bought the vehicles.
Elukpo expressed concern that no indigene of Kogi State has been appointed as NIWA Managing Director, leading to the authority’s activities being run from Abuja.
He questioned who pays for the accommodations of NIWA officials in Abuja and their regular transportation between Lokoja and Abuja.
The lawyer also requested evidence that the immediate past Managing Director resigned to contest the Osun State Governorship Election.
He however said if NIWA fails to respond within seven days, vows to seek legal means to compel compliance with his demands.
