Kogi State Government is repositioning the public school system to enable the girl child excel and become top professionals in their chosen careers.
The Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB IION, made the assertion when the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Kogi State chapter, paid an advocacy visit to the Ministry on Tuesday in Lokoja.
Represented by the Director of Administration and Finance in the Ministry, Hajia Lami Saratu Lawal, the Commissioner emphasised that education system repositioning would enable the girl child excel in their chosen careers especially in science, engineering and technological courses.
He said the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello would consistently put in place sustainable education policies to motivate the girl child into actualising their best potentials in the modern e-driven world.
Mr. Jones commended the women engineers for competing favourably in the men dominant world, praising their determination and courage while also extolling them for being role models to upcoming female students.
“Congratulations on your work, and I want to say it is very heartening to see women compete with men.
”It is a good thing to see women talk to the girl child on career choices and being able to influence them to be the best they can,” he said.
Declaring the engineers the pride of the state, the Commissioner lauded their campaigns and encouraged them to sustain their activities.
He assured the group that the Ministry would give full support to their programmes aimed at uplifting education standards in the state.
Earlier, the President of the Association, Engr. Joan Oguche, said they were in the Ministry to seek partnership in actualising the mission of catching the young girls early in the choice of science subjects in becoming future engineers.
She solicited the Ministry’s support for the celebration of International Day for Women and Girls in Engineering and the upcoming interschool science competition for girls in the three senatorial districts of the state.
